"Boys will be Boys" - an Eternal Truth?
What Roman law may suggest to our Pursuit of Gender Equality
Our gender concepts shape our identities as well as our culture of equality. Yet gender is such a deeply existential issue that many people resort to confirming clichés or even refuse critical debates. Looking into the past opens new perspectives and supports us in checking what we think and how we act with respect to gender.
Friday, May 6th, 10.15-11.45 (Näituse 13A-101)
On the Roman Surety Contract of fideiussio
The Roman contract of fideiussio furnishes the creditor with an extra option to get fulfilment. If the fideiussor pays, he can charge the original debtor for reimbursement. In the light of selected legal sources, elements and mechanisms of fideiussio will be analysed and put into economic and societal contexts of Roman Antiquity.
