University of Helsinki post-doctoral researcher Marta Cantero Gamito will give a guest lecture “Privacy and Electronic Communications Services” in the School of Law on Friday, November 3rd. The lecture will take place Näituse 20 room 103 at 12.00.
The lecture will provide the essentials of the current rules on ePrivacy and the future regulatory landscape in view of existing legislative developments (EU General Data Protection Regulation and the new Proposal for an ePrivacy Regulation). First, the session focuses on the logic behind the original obligations on electronic communications services providers. Secondly, attention will be paid to the technological changes that have led to a big overhaul of data protection and privacy legislation. Then the lecture will take a look at how these rules are trying to adapt to new market realities. The idea is to reflect on the imposition of privacy obligations on substitute services, in particular on Over-the-Top (OTTs) business services such as Facebook, Whatsapp, Skype, Netflix, etc., as a means to better understand the new rules on privacy.”
The PhD thesis of Cantero Gamito was titled “The Private Law Dimension of the EU Regulatory Framework for Electronic Communications. Evidence of the Selfsufficiency of European Regulatory Private Law”: Ms Cantero Gamito was supervised by Prof. Hans-W. Micklitz.
