The graduation ceremonies of the University of Tartu are held from 15 to 30 June in person. In Tartu, the ceremonies take place on the square in front of the Old Anatomical Theatre. The graduation of Viljandi Culture Academy will take place as individual ceremonies that were well-received last year. In Narva, Pärnu and Tallinn, graduation ceremonies are held indoors.
As the Health Board has advised not to organise large gatherings related to graduations, only graduating students may attend the ceremonies. Everyone else can watch the ceremonies online via UTTV or, in case of ceremonies taking place in Tartu, at some distance on Toome hill, where a large screen and speakers will be set up for the guests. Friends and families can congratulate the new graduates after the ceremony, taking care to avoid large gatherings, keep distance and follow the national restrictions. Therefore, agree with your guests beforehand about where you will meet after the ceremony.
Every year, graduates wish to take photos in Tartu in front of the main building. There, too, people must keep their distance and avoid gatherings. Graduates are also welcome to take their own photos by the university’s photo backdrop set up by the Old Anatomical Theatre, at Pirogov Square by the crabapple tree planted in honour of university graduates last year, by the bench dedicated to graduates in front of the mural of Von Bock House, by the “Kissing Students” sculpture decorated with the university’s caps, in the blooming botanical garden and the ruins of the Tartu Cathedral (entrance to cathedral towers is free of charge for the graduates; discount rates are available for their family members).
Graduating students will receive more detailed information about the ceremony from their faculty or unit by email. Participants do not have to wear a mask, but they do need to sanitise their hands and follow the instructions of the organisers. The university will do everything in its power to make the graduation ceremonies special and memorable and also counts on the responsible behaviour of graduates as well as their friends and families.
Graduating students who want the university’s cap or ring can order it from shop.ut.ee. Ring orders will be forwarded to the jeweller on the last day of each month and the rings will be ready in 1.5 months. Those who want the cap are recommended to place their order as soon as possible to receive the cap before the graduation ceremony. Both the caps and rings can be conveniently collected from the parcel machine.
Graduates who cannot attend the ceremony will find information about receiving their diploma on the university’s website.
